Founders move through distinct phases: from innovator to business owner to emerging CEO. Each stage demands a different kind of leadership. The question isn't whether you can built it. It's whether you can lead it.

I partner with startup founders navigating the shift from builder to CEO - the moment when the skills that got you here are no longer enough on their own.

My work focuses on three things: strategic clarity so you can lead the company, organizational alignment so you can lead your people, and inner leadership so you can lead yourself through the complexity of it all.

Founder realities

You may be navigating:

  • The shift from building the product to leading the people who build it

  • High-stakes decisions with incomplete information

  • A leadership role that keeps shifting as the company grows

  • Isolation, pressure, and the gap between how you present and how you actually feel

  • A team that's growing faster than your management systems

  • Technical language and the need for concise communication

Why work with Christa

I bring a systems-level understanding of entrepreneurship, leadership, and capital, paired with experience supporting founders inside complex ecosystems.

My background includes venture capital and angel investing, along with founder mentorship through Smart Futures Lab, MIT Solve, Launch NY, Chloe Capital, and the Carnegie Mellon Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship. I’ve worked with dozens of founders, often purpose-driven leaders and women operating in traditionally male-dominated fields.

My work is grounded in the belief that diverse technical leadership is essential to solving complex global challenges

“What a powerful session… this is a great starting point as I outline the impact portion of the business.”

The Founder Growth Journey

Our work is collaborative, focused, and responsive to where you are in the journey.

The focus and structure shift as your company and leadership role evolve.

Idea / The Innovator

Laying the foundation

At this stage, you're pre-build or solo - a technical expert with a vision and the conviction to pursue it. The ecosystem around you is strong: pitch competitions, technical mentors, early believers. Leadership doesn't feel like an urgent problem yet.

The first hire changes everything.

Our work in this phase focuses on strategic clarity and inner leadership - getting crisp on vision and priorities before the noise gets loud and building the leadership habits that will sustain you through what comes next. The founders who invest here don't have to recover later.

Primary focus: Strategic Clarity, Inner Leadership

Early Build/ The Business Owner

Navigating traction & growing complexity

You have a small team, an execution focus, and real product decisions to make. Accelerators and business mentors are available, and the leadership gap is emerging - team coordination is harder than you expected, and the team isn't always doing what you thought you agreed on.

The leadership trigger here is misalignment - and it's the first signal that the skills that got you to this stage aren't sufficient for the next one.

Our work focuses on organizational alignment and strategic clarity:

  • Building systems to match your momentum

  • Strengthening your decision-making as the business model evolves

  • Developing the communication and influence skills that keep a growing team moving in the same direction

Primary focus: Strategic Clarity, Organizational Alignment

Early Traction/ The Emerging CEO

The identity shift in full

Customer interest and investor partnerships are real. Your leadership is needed - and may be undeveloped for what the role now demands. There is where the leadership gap becomes critical and the full weight of the founder-to-CEO transition lands.

The is the stage where founders are most at risk - and where leadership development has the highest leverage.

Our work goes deepest here, across all three areas of the Founder to CEO Leadership Journey:

  • Strategic Clarity to lead the company

  • Organizational alignment to lead your people

  • Inner Leadership to lead yourself through the most demanding transition of your professional life

The shift for the person who builds things to the person who leads the people who build things doesn't happen automactically. It has to be intentionally developed.

Primary Focus: Strategic Clarity, Organizational Alignment, Inner Leadership

Growth/ The CEO

Leading for the long arc

You're scaling - team, board relationships, organizational leadership, culture, and vision are all yours to hold. The leadership gap, unaddressed, becomes severe. The crisis is visible. By then, it's too late.

Founders who reach this stage with their leadership intact didn't get lucky. They built it deliberately, stage by stage.

Our work here is about durability:

  • Leadership that scales with the company

  • Sustained alignment between strategy, values, and execution

  • Inner leadership to maintain clarity and judgment over the long arc - through growth, change, and whatever the company demands next

Primary focus: Organizational Alignment, Inner Leadership

What becomes possible

Founders who do this work don't just feel more confident, they lead differently. Here's what this looks like in practice:

Strategic Clarity

You make decisions faster and with more conviction. Your priorities are stable enough that your team can move without you in the room. You can tell the company's story consistently and negotiate from a clear sense of what is needed.

Organizational Alignment

Your team knows what's expected and why. Feedback flows in both directions. The culture you're building doesn't depend on your presence to hold. You manage up - to your board and investors - with confidence and intention rather than anxiety.

Inner Leadership

You've made the shift from builder to CEO - not just in title but in how you see the role. You lead with a settled confidence that doesn't require having all the answers. You recover faster, stay clearer under pressure and lead yourself with the same rigor your bring to leading the company.

The aim is not just progress, but leadership you can sustain over the long arc of the company.

“Christa’s ability to pull ideas and solutions from me continued to amaze me. I came into this coaching thinking there were no clear answers, yet with her guidance, it all became very clear. From there, a path was created and I was on my way.”
